It’s an inarguable fact that many women have rebelled against wearing uncomfortable bras and become accustomed to the bralessness of the pandemic. Proof of this evidenced is in the free-the-nipple fashion trend of the summer, as I wrote in my recent post, where a kind of Wild West attitude has overtaken the city and anything goes. This has not even been confined to the young and perky.
Even the more pendulous segment of the population have thrown out their uncomfortable bras – or tossed them into the bottom of the laundry hamper.
However, many people are returning to the office at least a couple of days a week and are finding themselves with a dilemma: to bra or not to bra?
Overwhelmingly, surveys have shown that most women agree that it is preferable to conform to some semblance of modesty in a professional setting.
Comments in Reddit on the topic include:
“Realistically, we cannot expect a dramatic shift in social acceptance of going braless in the workplace.”
“But in reality, I would never show up to work without a bra on because there are so many people who just couldn’t handle that.”
“For me personally, I wouldn’t go without a bra in a professional setting.”
That said, there is a disinclination to return to the over-padded, push-up bras with stiff underwires – however, wearing a sports bra is not an option for all day use. It’s too restrictive and the bread loaf silhouette is not particularly flattering under clothing.
And let’s not forget another important reason to delve back into the world of bras – attractive lingerie is not just underwear but a hidden layer of self-care that can boost your self esteem and spirits!
How to Never Wear a Bra to the Office Again! Share on X1. Wolford’s “Skin” support bralette is next to naked
Wolford is well known for very high quality and they’re on the high end of the price spectrum. That said, this is definitely a go-to item you should have in your lingerie drawer.
This bralette is called “Skin” because it is described as “exceedingly lightweight and thin”. Wireless, weightless, wearable, it’s a bit of a high-tech miracle with a combination of molded cups and thin lines of silicone for shaping under the bust.
2. Knix support Bralette
Knix says ” It’s time to ditch the underwire and wear something that you really love”! We agree! This is a mid-priced seamless support bra with an attractive low neckline perfect for low cut tops, with light, removable padding. Wide straps for comfort.
3. Lattelier’s support bralette
The clever support bralette in 5 colors from Lattelier – it is uniquely designed to provide lift and shaping with a curved and seamed cup without the actual underwires. The are lightly padded (not removable) and the wide strap is comfortable provides lift to the bustline.
3. Glam bralette in soft stretch lace by Eberjey
The basics are fine but sometimes you need to glam it up in this black lace stretch bralette from Eberjey. The cups are lightly padded, so you’re covered in the office – but after work unbutton a few buttons and let a little bit of lace peek through a cashmere cardigan or silky blouse.
4. Barely there silk bralette from Lattelier
What a luxurious design from Lattelier – the ballerina pink silk satin is so pretty. Obviously this is for the small busted girl but, if you can get away with it, it’s a great addition to your lingerie drawer. The darts give a little perky shape which will look great under any sweater.
5. A supportive bralette for the larger busted from Curvy Kate.
“Get Up and Chill Bralette” is described as a WFH item but it double-functions as a work bralette, in my opinion, because it is well designed with mesh support in the inner cup to create hold and lift. The soft microfiber outer cup creates a smooth shape and the wide straps give added comfort. Plus all the Curvy Kate models looks so gosh-darn happy!
6. A seamless pull on bralette from Calvin Klein
Classic Calvin Klein! From the Invisible collection, this comfortable bralette is described “as good as wearing nothing at all”! Heat embossed care instructions for a completely smooth interior – don’t you hate cutting paper labels out of intimates? (It’s a pet peeve of mine.)
There are several benefits to this wireless bralette: its smooth and seamless design makes it all but invisible under clothing. The ultra-smooth microfiber is extra comfortable and the pads are removable, should you wish to opt out of extra shaping. Did I mention an extra nice detail – no tags! The logo and labeling are heat sealed. It also comes in 5 colors. (take a look here)
7. A vintage style bralette from Savage x Fenty
Rihanna’s collection comes across as a little mishmash due to the fact that the bras are photographed multiple times on different models but don’t let that throw you off – there are some gems. I fell in love with the cute, lacey “A Peek Behind the Lace Bralette” which has delightful vintage flare. Made from soft mint (or black) color modal fabric with a sheer cutout bow motif at front. The back is mesh with hook and eye closure. Definitely NOT a support bra but it will look darling under a wrap dress.
